Hiking in the park

Discover the protected areas of the Maritime Alps

All summer long, free bus to take holidaymakers to discover the protected areas
"Sustainable journey" from Limone to the Maritime Alps and Marguareis Parks

This summer, Limone Piemonte will be the starting point for the discovery of the Maritime Alps and Marguareis parks, which embrace the tourist resort.
For nine Wednesdays, from 7th July to 1st September, the Alpi Marittime Protected Areas Agency and the town council are offering low ecological footprint hiking. The journey from Limone "Pearl of the Alps", a network of resorts committed to promoting soft mobility, is made by bus (free of charge).
The initiative, co-financed by the Alcotra Piter Programme (Integrated territorial plan) AlpiMed Mobil, aims to promote sustainable mobility and test a new service dedicated to tourists.
The trips are in the Pesio and Gesso valleys and are accompanied by a nature guide. Three proposals to visit the two parks, each repeated three times over the summer.
The first (7 and 28 July, 18 August) is in Entracque to walk along the "CiClimatici" path dedicated to climate change, along which works of contemporary "land art" are on display. To complete the picture on the subject, in the afternoon, they visit the exhibition "Last ice: climate changes in the Mediterranean Alps" at the Enel Green Power Information Centre. This is also an opportunity to learn, through the observation of a model, the functioning of the hydroelectric plants of the upper Gesso, among the most powerful in Europe.
The second trio of proposals is the walk "Woods, deer and waterfalls of the Pesio Valley". From Certosa di Pesio you walk through fantastic woods and along the Pesio following the "Laendemic art" path. An itinerary to observe works of art created in 2019 with natural materials found on site and to arrive at the Canavere wildlife enclosure for a close encounter with deer. The final destination is the sparkling Saut waterfalls, among the most beautiful in the Marguareis Park.
The last triad of outings (21 July, 11 August, 1 September) is to the Piano di Valasco, an iconic location in the Maritime Park, and to the Valderia botanical garden at Terme di Valdieri.

For all outings, booking is required at the Limone tourist office (tel. 0171 925181) or on the website www.limoneturismo.it. Bus transport is free. The guide costs 15 euros per person (free for children up to 13 years old). Payment must be made by credit card or debit card at the tourist office in Limone before 12 noon on the Monday before the trip to the Parks.
