From 26 June to 24 September 2026, the centre of Limone Piemonte will come alive with the Cracking Art installation, a movement known for its animal-themed works. The opening is scheduled for Friday 26 June.

A fairy tale featuring animals will come to life in the streets of Limone’s town centre from 10 June. The town is set to be taken over by a gentle, colourful and decidedly larger-than-life invasion. It is Cracking Art, the international art movement that has been bringing works inspired by the animal world to cities for over thirty years. Throughout the season, its artists will treat the tourist resort to crocodiles, snails, swallows, rabbits and many other charming characters. 

Monumental installations will transform Via Roma into a widespread artistic trail, with a preview for journalists and art enthusiasts in mid-June and the official opening on the 26th of the same month. The installation will be open to visitors until 12 September. 

Founded in 1993, Cracking Art has built its identity around the use of regenerated and recyclable plastic, transformed into sculptures with intense colours and simple forms.

The creators explain: ‘Set against the backdrop of the Maritime Alps, the sculptures echo the surrounding natural environment and, through their interaction with the people who live in Limone, generate a fruitful interplay, a sort of hybridisation. From this dialogue between nature and urban space, new ideas and stories emerge, waiting to be imagined and told.’

With the Cracking Art project, Limone chooses to express itself in a novel way through contemporary public art, transforming a stroll through the village into a route made up of installations and details that change the way we look at everyday spaces, capable too of opening up gateways to the world of imagination and play. 

The presence of the artworks along the urban route invites residents and visitors to view the town from different perspectives. The artworks are also striking in their size. The snails are over three metres long, the rabbits stand two and a half metres tall, and the monumental crocodile stretches over five metres.

The organisers, My Limone and the Ego Bianchi association, with the support of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Cuneo, aim to create a striking visual contrast: the rarefied atmosphere of the mountains clashing with the industrial plasticity of the works, the peaceful landscape and the traditions of the Alps in stark contrast to the silhouettes of brightly coloured pop animals bursting onto the streets and squares, in a suggestion of alienating irony. The initiative is sponsored by the Municipality of Limone.
